HACKENSACK, NJ — A 46-year-old man faces multiple charges of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child following an investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies.
Jorge E. Mejia, of Hackensack, was arrested Friday and charged with four counts of second-degree sexual assault and one count of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest, which resulted from an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, the Garfield Police Department and the Hackensack Police Department.
The Garfield Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit on Thursday regarding the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile that had occurred earlier that day.
The investigation revealed that Mejia allegedly sexually assaulted and endangered a juvenile in Garfield and Hackensack on multiple occasions beginning in July.
Mejia was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court.
