SODUS, NY — The New York State Police responded to Champlin Road on Oct. 15 following the discovery of human skeletal remains.
A property owner located skeletal remains in a wooded area and contacted 911.
Members of the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Identification Unit responded to the scene, and search efforts continued over the following days with assistance from the State Police Canine Unit and the County Coroner.
Additional bones were recovered during the excavation of the area.
A forensic anthropologist conducted a preliminary examination and determined that the remains are believed to be human.
The remains were turned over to the Medical Examiner’s Office for further analysis and identification.
The investigation remains ongoing.
