ISLAND POND — Two commercial motor vehicles collided at the intersection of Vermont Route 105 and Lake Shore Drive in Island Pond on Tuesday morning, resulting in minor injuries and violations.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:25 a.m. on October 7, 2025, when Nicholas Vanasse, 35, of Brownington, was driving a white 2013 Hino box truck loaded with clothing eastbound on Route 105 at about 45 mph.
According to Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles officials, Vanasse was inattentive and crossed into the westbound lane.
He attempted to swerve back into the eastbound lane to avoid a head-on collision with a blue 2023 Western Star truck-tractor pulling a white 2018 Great Dane trailer operated by Michael Provencher, 64, of Irasburg.
Vanasse sideswiped the other vehicle, causing minor damage to both vehicles and minor injuries to Provencher, who was transported to North Country Hospital.
Vanasse was working for Codet Inc., while Provencher was working for Poulin Grain Inc. The Western Star was towed by Grenier’s Towing after a post-crash inspection.
A post-crash inspection of the box truck by Inspector Lindor resulted in out-of-service violations for both driver and vehicle. Vanasse was neither wearing nor in possession of corrective lenses as required by his Vermont commercial driver’s license, and the box truck was actively leaking hydraulic fluid from its brake lines.
Vanasse was issued a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for violation of Title 23 VSA 1038, Driving On Roadways Lane For Traffic. The vehicle was towed by Ray’s Towing & Recovery.
Vermont DMV was assisted by Vermont State Police and Brighton Fire Department. Sergeant Jacobs, Inspector Johnson and Inspector Lindor responded to the scene.
