GUILDERLAND — A 33-year-old man was arrested on multiple charges including driving while intoxicated after allegedly fleeing a domestic dispute with a child in his vehicle Wednesday night.

Angelo J. Martegarcia of Guilderland was taken into custody following an incident that began at approximately 10:28 p.m. when police received multiple 911 calls reporting a woman screaming for help in the area of Patroon Drive at Heritage Village Apartments.

Callers reported a man was attempting to forcibly drag the woman into a vehicle while covering the mouth of a screaming child.

The suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle before officers arrived, according to the Guilderland Police Department.

Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed and refused to comply.

During the pursuit, a Guilderland Police Department patrol vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle collision.

The suspect vehicle was later found abandoned.

Investigators located a male and a 10-year-old child walking along State Farm Road who were believed to be involved in the incident.

Following interviews with all parties, police determined the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute at Heritage Village Apartments and that the suspect had fled with the child while under the influence of alcohol.

Martegarcia was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s Law, first-degree reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations.

He was arraigned in Guilderland Town Court on Oct. 9 and released on his own recognizance.

The officer involved in the collision was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
