COXSACKIE — Troopers from State Police Coxsackie observed a 2013 Buick traveling southbound on Route 9W in the town of Coxsackie in violation of New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law on Sept. 29 at approximately 2:10 a.m.
Troopers initiated a traffic stop and interviewed the driver, identified as Kristina M. Neaton, age 25, of Cohoes, and the front seat passenger, Malchijah O. Steward, age 24, of Ravena.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Neaton was operating the vehicle with a suspended New York State driver’s license.
She was also found in possession of a tightly rolled dollar bill containing cocaine residue.
A subsequent search of the passenger, Steward, revealed a loaded and defaced Ruger LCP .380 caliber semi-automatic pistol.
The search also revealed a digital scale with cocaine residue and a baggie containing an unknown powdery substance.
Both individuals were taken into custody without incident and transported to State Police Catskill for processing.
Neaton was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th degree, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 3rd degree and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.
She was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Coxsackie Town Court on Oct. 20 at 3 p.m.
Steward was charged with criminal possession of a weapon 2nd degree, criminal possession of a weapon 3rd degree, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th degree and criminal use of drug paraphernalia 2nd degree.
Steward was arraigned in Coxsackie Town Court and remanded to the Greene County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail, $20,000 secured bond, or $40,000 partially secured bond.
