BATH — A 24-year-old Bath man was arrested Sept. 8 on charges of filing false documents and fraudulently receiving more than $1,000 in welfare benefits.
Terry C. Long III of Allen Street was charged with offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, falsifying business records in the first degree, welfare fraud in the fourth degree and grand larceny in the fourth degree, all class E felonies.
Steuben County Sheriff’s Office investigators allege Long filed false documents with the Steuben County Department of Social Services between May 27 and July 31.
Long allegedly received $1,039 in benefits he was not eligible to receive, according to Sheriff Jim Allard.
Long was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Village of Bath Court.
The investigation involved assistance from the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit and the District Attorney’s Office.
