Batavia police make multiple arrests for contempt, larceny charges

BATAVIA — Police made several arrests over recent weeks on charges ranging from criminal contempt to petit larceny.

Justin T. Calmes, 47, of Batavia, was arrested Sept. 1 for criminal contempt in the first degree after allegedly violating an order of protection.

He was issued an appearance ticket and is due in court Sept. 9.

Rhonda J. Schirmer, 58, of Batavia, was arrested Sept. 2 on an arrest warrant issued after she failed to appear in court on a misdemeanor traffic ticket.

She was arraigned in Batavia City Court and released.

Carl E. Russo, 22, of Batavia, was arrested Aug. 28 for criminal contempt in the second degree after allegedly being found at a residence on Summit Street in violation of an order of protection.

Russo was arraigned in Batavia City Court and released.

Thomas J. Mitchell, 36, of Candor, was arrested Sept. 3 on three bench warrants issued after he failed to appear in court on three separate criminal cases.

He was taken to the Genesee County Jail and arraigned in CAP Court.

On Aug. 22, Batavia Police responded to Porter Avenue for a report of a large fight in the street.

After an investigation, five people were charged.

Sarah L. Marcello, Nevaeh C. Welch, Jaelynn R. Rivera and Ida VanOrden were each charged with endangering the welfare of a child and disorderly conduct.

Rivera was additionally charged with harassment in the second degree.

Nyasia M. VanOrden was also charged with harassment in the second degree.

All were issued appearance tickets and released.

Sherry Amidon, 41, of Rochester, was arrested Aug. 19 on a bench warrant after failing to appear in court on a misdemeanor traffic ticket issued July 29.

Amidon was arraigned in CAP Court and released.

Donnie Armstrong, 53, of Batavia, was arrested Aug. 29 for petit larceny after allegedly stealing a bicycle from a residence on East Main Street.

He was issued an appearance ticket and released.

Loretta L. Baer, 54, of Batavia, was arrested Aug. 29 for harassment in the second degree and obstructing governmental administration in the second degree.

Police allege Baer threw an item at a police officer and ran when they attempted to arrest her on an outstanding warrant.

She was issued an appearance ticket and is due in court Sept. 9.

Robert H. Ergas, 74, of Batavia, was arrested Aug. 30 for criminal mischief in the fourth degree after allegedly damaging a fire alarm control panel at an address on East Main Street.

He was issued an appearance ticket and is due in court Sept. 9.

Megan D. Seymour, 35, of Batavia, was arrested Aug. 30 for harassment in the second degree after allegedly striking another person during an altercation on East Avenue.

She was issued an appearance ticket and is due in court Sept. 9.

Lisa M. Burke, 56, of Batavia, was arrested Aug. 29 for petit larceny after allegedly stealing merchandise from Tops.

She was issued an appearance ticket and is due in court Sept. 9.
