Lyons man charged with rape, incest in Newark domestic incident

LYONS — The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Town of Lyons man following an investigation into a domestic incident.

The investigation revealed that a female who was related to the suspect was drugged and raped on Jan. 21 while living at an address in the Village of Newark.

Deputies arrested Matthew J. Hagar, 38, of Layton Street in the Town of Lyons.

It was reported that on Jan. 21 while at a residence in the Village of Newark, Hagar drugged a female relative, waited until she was unconscious and raped her.

Hagar was charged with rape in the first degree, incest in the first degree and predatory sexual assault.

Hagar is currently a level 3 sex offender and on probation from a previous conviction in March 2022 for criminal sexual act in the second degree involving oral or anal sex of a child under 15 while he was over 18.

Hagar was arraigned and committed to the custody of the sheriff without bail.
