Jamestown man arrested on drug charges after scooter stop

JAMESTOWN — An officer observed Mark G. Watson riding an electric scooter on the street and committing a traffic violation at around 2:47 a.m. Aug. 26.

Officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s 3rd platoon were patrolling in the area of E 7th Street and Liberty Street when they attempted to stop Watson due to the observed vehicle and traffic law violation.

Watson fled on foot behind a nearby residence.

A brief foot pursuit ensued until Watson was taken into custody.

While in custody, it was discovered that Watson had a quantity of crack cocaine on his person and numerous small plastic baggies commonly used for distributing individual amounts of illegal drugs.

Through investigation, it was also discovered that Watson had an active probation warrant for possession of stolen property.

Watson was transported to the Jamestown City Jail and is being held pending arraignment.

Watson is being charged with criminally using drug paraphernalia 2nd, criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th, resisting arrest, and he was issued a uniformed traffic ticket.

Watson will also have to answer to his probation warrant.
