HAMLIN — New York State Police announced the arrest of Peter Tonery, 74, of Hamlin, for possession of a sexual performance by a child.
The arrest resulted from a joint investigation conducted by the New York State Police and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
In August 2023, troopers executed a search warrant at Tonery’s residence in Hamlin related to this investigation.
During the search, State Police recovered evidence from the defendant’s electronic devices, including over 820,000 files depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
On Aug. 25, Tonery was charged with possession of a sexual performance by a child, a Class E felony.
Tonery was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Hamlin Court on Sept. 15.
The investigation is ongoing.
