LYNDONVILLE — A Chicago truck driver struck bridge barriers on Center Street, causing extensive damage to both her vehicle and town property Monday morning.
Lyndonville Police responded to the intersection of Center Street and Stevens Loop Road at approximately 9:12 a.m. for reports of a box truck collision with bridge barriers on the north side of the bridge.
Officers found a blue Mack box truck with Illinois registration parked at the Park and Ride.
The truck, belonging to ASAP Expedite Inc. of Chicago, was operated by Maja Jankovic, 52, of Chicago.
Jankovic told police she was following GPS directions that led her onto Center Street.
She was issued a Vermont civil violation for failing to obey traffic control devices after passing signs indicating the height limit for crossing the bridge.
The 2023 Mack box truck sustained approximately six feet of roof damage and separation of the headboard from the box.
Jankovic was not injured in the collision.
The town bridge barrier suffered bent and damaged top beam and decorative features, twisted legs, sheared bolts and possible damage to a concrete pier.
Lyndon Road Crew assessed the damage and determined the remaining barrier was safe for general traffic flow but expressed uncertainty about withstanding another box truck strike.
