Motorcyclist killed in crash on Interstate 690 in Geddes

GEDDES — New York State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 690 eastbound in the town of Geddes on Aug. 21 at 5:57 p.m.

The preliminary investigation has determined that both vehicles were traveling eastbound when the driver of a 2011 Ford F-250 pickup truck changed lanes from the driving lane to the passing lane.

A 2006 Suzuki motorcycle then struck the rear of the pickup truck.

The operator of the motorcycle, 21-year-old Ryan T. Hines from Baldwinsville, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The operator of the pickup truck, 36-year-old Christopher B. Riese from Syracuse, was not injured and was tested at the scene by a State Police Drug Recognition Expert and showed no signs of impairment.

No tickets were issued to the driver.

The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is assisting with the investigation, which remains ongoing.

Interstate 690 eastbound remained closed for several hours while troopers processed the scene.
