BATH — A 61-year-old Bath man was arrested Friday on obstruction charges after fleeing from police who were investigating a shoplifting report.

Warren Hoffman was taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit near Save A Lot, according to the Village of Bath Police Department.

Police received a call about a shoplifter who had already left the Save A Lot store.

Officers and State Police began searching the area for the suspect.

Authorities located Hoffman, who matched the description provided by witnesses.

When officers attempted to question him about the incident, Hoffman fled on foot, police said.

He was detained after the brief pursuit.

Save A Lot declined to press shoplifting charges and requested only that Hoffman be trespassed from the property.

Hoffman was charged with obstruction of governmental administration, a Class A misdemeanor.

He was transported to the Bath Police Department for processing.

Hoffman was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Bath Village Court at a later date.
