MARSHFIELD — Vermont State Police are searching for the driver of a stolen blue Chevrolet truck who attempted to ram a marked cruiser Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred on U.S. Route 2 at 2:13 p.m. Aug. 13.
Police said the truck, bearing Vermont registration 404A638, was involved in a retail theft from Bisbee’s Hardware in Waitsfield on Tuesday evening.
Troopers were alerted Wednesday that the vehicle had been spotted near the hardware store.
Troopers from the Berlin barracks later encountered the truck, at which point the driver attempted to ram the police cruiser.
The vehicle fled south on Vermont Route 100B toward Waitsfield.
State police did not pursue the vehicle.
The driver faces potential charges of gross negligent operation, attempted assault on an officer and retail theft.
