BRAINTREE — A 36-year-old Milford man was arrested Sunday evening after allegedly attempting to carjack a vehicle and stabbing the driver outside a store on Grossman Drive.
Police said the incident occurred just before 8 p.m. when a 54-year-old Quincy man was sitting in his vehicle waiting for his family to finish shopping.
A suspect approached the driver’s side window and began talking to the man before producing a knife and ordering him out of the car, saying “You have insurance, get out of the car,” according to police.
A struggle ensued and the victim sustained laceration injuries to his forearm, hand and upper chest.
The victim’s family members witnessed the struggle as they exited the store and began yelling at the suspect, who then fled toward railroad tracks.
Bystanders and family members pursued the suspect, who jumped a fence and ran along Red Line and Commuter Rail tracks.
Responding officers were directed to where the suspect jumped the fence, and one officer climbed over and spotted the subject several hundred yards down the tracks.
The officer pursued the suspect and watched him duck into a wooded area off the tracks.
Officers gave commands to the suspect and took him into custody without further incident.
Other officers treated the victim’s wounds before he was transported to a Boston hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police recovered evidence at the scene, including a knife suspected to have been used by the suspect.
Justin Kilburn was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed carjacking, witness intimidation and possession of Class B and Class E drugs.
