ONEIDA — A fatal motor vehicle crash is under investigation after a single vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree Thursday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:20 a.m. near 1108 Lake Road at the intersection of Lake Road and Canal Road.
The vehicle caught fire with both occupants trapped inside.
Nearby construction workers attempted to rescue them and extinguish the flames before first responders arrived.
The victims were identified as Beckyjo A. Kehrer, 52, of Canastota, and Tammy A. Goodwin, 55, of Eaton.
Both died at the scene.
The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is assisting with the investigation.
Multiple agencies responded, including the Oneida City Fire Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and Vineall Ambulance.
Road closures were in place during the response.
