LONG LAKE — The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office was notified July 29 of a hit and run boating accident on Long Lake.
The 911 call reported that a boat had struck a dock and left the scene near Whispering Woods Way.
The victim’s dock sustained significant damage, and damage was done to the landowner’s boat.
The accident occurred July 28 at approximately 5:30 p.m.
Further investigation revealed that Joni L. Barney, 55, of 2060 Hardwood Drive, Sandy Creek, knowingly operated a 1993 Starcraft in an unsafe manner and while too close to shore, making impact with a dock.
The boat jumped over the dock and Barney fled the scene, according to investigators.
The Sheriff’s Navigation Unit charged the defendant with multiple Navigation Law violations including reckless operation, leaving the scene of an accident, operation without a safety certificate, and operating more than 5 mph within 100 feet of shore.
The defendant was issued appearance tickets returnable Aug. 14 in the Town of Long Lake Court.
