Campton driver arrested for DUI after crashing into home

CAMPTON — A 55-year-old Campton man was arrested for driving under the influence after crashing his vehicle into a residential building Friday night.

Corey Smith was driving a 2016 Tesla Model S south on NH Route 175 at a high rate of speed when he lost control at 10:51 p.m. Aug. 1, according to the Campton Police Department.

The vehicle veered off the right side of the roadway and collided with a tree, fire hydrant and a residential building at 1177 NH Route 175.

Both occupants of the vehicle were evaluated by Campton Thornton Fire Rescue.

The passenger was transported to Speare Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.

Smith was arrested at the scene and charged with DUI impairment, reckless conduct, two counts of criminal mischief and open container violation.

The residential building suffered substantial damage in the crash.

Smith was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in Plymouth Court for arraignment.

The Campton Police Department was assisted by the Thornton Police Department and Campton-Thornton Fire Rescue.
