PEEKSKILL — A Peekskill man has been arrested on multiple felony charges in connection with a wrong-way crash that seriously injured two people in June.
Kevin Arevalo-Yanqui was arrested Thursday and arraigned in Peekskill city court on charges including aggravated vehicular assault, a class C felony.
The charges stem from a June 8 collision on Route 9 South near the Louisa Street off-ramp at approximately 5:30 a.m.
Police said Arevalo-Yanqui was driving a Honda Civic the wrong way on Route 9 when it collided head-on with a Toyota 4Runner.
Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage, and both drivers were trapped in their vehicles.
The Peekskill Fire Department freed both drivers, who sustained serious injuries and were transported to Westchester Medical Center.
Arevalo-Yanqui faces one count of aggravated vehicular assault, one count of first-degree vehicular assault, one count of second-degree vehicular assault, one count of driving while intoxicated and three counts of driving while ability impaired.
All charges except the aggravated vehicular assault are class D or E felonies.
Bail was set at $75,000 cash, 10% of $150,000 partially secured surety bond, or $100,000 insurance company bail bond.
Arevalo-Yanqui was committed to Westchester County Jail.
The investigation is ongoing.
