PALMYRA — Police arrested a local man July 24 following reports of theft at a dairy store on East Main Street.

John P. McMenamin was taken into custody at 10:47 a.m. at his home after officers identified him through surveillance footage from Byrne Dairy at 611 E. Main St., according to the Palmyra Police Department.

Police received the theft report at approximately 8:54 a.m. July 24, with store officials saying a man had been stealing items for several days.

Officers arrived at the store but the suspect had already left the area.

Surveillance cameras showed McMenamin stealing items on two separate dates, police said.

Less than two hours after the initial report, patrol officers located McMenamin at his residence.

McMenamin violently fought with officers before being taken into custody, police said.

He was charged with two counts of petit larceny and one count of resisting arrest.

McMenamin was processed and released with multiple appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Palmyra Village Court at a later date.
