WILTON — A 34-year-old Wilton man was shot by police Friday afternoon after threatening a landscaper with a gun and later pointing the weapon at law enforcement officers.
The Franklin County Regional Communications Center received a 911 call at approximately 1:06 p.m. reporting that Gabriele Wilbur was threatening to shoot a male doing landscaping work at 58 Cemetery Road in Wilton.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and Wilton Police Department responded and attempted to negotiate with Wilbur, but he refused to follow commands.
Wilbur pointed a gun at law enforcement personnel, prompting officials to request the Maine State Police Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiation Team.
After a brief standoff, Wilbur confronted officers while armed.
Maine State Police Trooper Andrew Hardy and Wilton Police Officer Cody Henry discharged their weapons, shooting Wilbur.
Law enforcement personnel rendered aid to Wilbur until EMS arrived and transported him to the hospital.
Wilbur is currently at Maine Medical Center receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
The underlying criminal investigation is being handled by the Wilton Police Department and the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit.
Wilbur is expected to be charged with several criminal offenses.
Trooper Hardy and Officer Henry have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard practice when deadly force is used by law enforcement.
The Office of the Attorney General will investigate the use of deadly force by law enforcement.
