HALFMOON — A 57-year-old woman has been charged with felonies after a French Bulldog died from heat exposure while in the care of her business, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday.

Yvette M. Giovanni of Halfmoon was charged with criminal mischief in the 2nd degree, a class D felony, and aggravated cruelty to animals, a class E felony.

The charges stem from an investigation into the death of a dog named Gus at A Time Four Paws in Halfmoon.

The Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous complaint after executing an initial search warrant at the business, alleging that Gus had died from heat exposure while in the establishment’s care.

The complaint led to an additional search warrant being conducted Wednesday.

Giovanni is accused of intentionally killing the companion animal by leaving Gus in high temperatures with no means of cooling himself and failing to provide emergency medical care until the dog died.

She is also charged with intentionally damaging property valued at more than $1,500.

Giovanni was arraigned before Judge Katherine Suchocki in Halfmoon Town Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail pending further proceedings.
