PANTON — A 41-year-old Ferrisburgh man was hospitalized with suspected moderate injuries after his motorcycle crashed on Vermont Route 22A near East Road on July 8.

August Jerger was traveling south at an extremely high rate of speed while passing vehicles unsafely at approximately 2:38 p.m. when his motorcycle’s rear tire ruptured, according to Vermont State Police.

The tire rupture caused Jerger to lose control of his 2022 Kawasaki Super Sports motorcycle.

The motorcycle crossed the centerline, left the road off the northbound lane and struck a mailbox before coming to rest on its side.

Jerger was transported by ambulance to UVM Medical Center.

Police cited Jerger for negligent operation and issued him violations for driving too fast for conditions and hazards, and driving on roadways laned for traffic.

The motorcycle was totaled in the crash.

Jerger is scheduled to appear in Addison County Superior Court, Criminal Division on Aug. 18 at 12:30 p.m.

Road conditions were dry and weather was cloudy at the time of the crash.
