Missing ATV rider found after 11-hour search in Greenfield

GREENFIELD — A 76-year-old man who went missing while riding an all-terrain vehicle was found Monday night after an 11-hour search involving multiple agencies.

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office received a missing person call at 2:42 p.m. on Coy Road in the town of Greenfield.

The caller reported that the man had gone out on an ATV at approximately 10:30 a.m. near the Pompa Brothers’ gravel pits and had not returned.

After an extensive search, the man was located off a trail on Lake Desolation Road at 9:13 p.m.

He was transported to Saratoga Hospital by EMS for evaluation and treatment of heat-related symptoms.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Pompa Brothers, Inc., T-Mobile, Greenfield, Corinth, and Edinburg Fire Departments, Jessup’s Landing EMS, Saratoga County Office of Emergency Services, FBI Safe Streets, New York State Police aviation, and the New York State Forest Rangers.

“We’re very happy about the outcome of this situation,” said Undersheriff Jeffrey R. Brown.

“The temperatures yesterday were as high as they’ve ever been and we were really concerned given the circumstances.”
