Bath man arrested on drug, weapon charges after traffic stop

BATH — A 31-year-old Bath man was arrested on drug and weapon charges following a May traffic stop that led to the discovery of methamphetamine and a stun gun.

Shane M. Cummings was taken into custody June 17 after a warrant was issued for his arrest stemming from a May 19 traffic stop on Geneva Street.

A Village of Bath Police Department officer initiated the traffic stop at approximately 8:59 p.m. for a Vehicle and Traffic Law violation.

During the investigation, the officer suspected criminal drug activity was taking place.

A search of the vehicle revealed Cummings was in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine, packaging material and an electric stun gun.

Cummings was initially released pending further investigation before the warrant was issued.

He was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, criminally using drug paraphernalia in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.

The first three charges are misdemeanors.

Cummings was transported to Steuben County Jail for central arraignment processing.
