SOUTH WINDSOR — Police arrested a 35-year-old South Windsor man Thursday on domestic violence charges after he allegedly struck a victim multiple times in front of two juveniles.
Akil Kumar was taken into custody at 4:52 p.m. Thursday and charged with risk of injury to a child and disorderly conduct, according to the South Windsor Police Department.
Kumar was processed and released on a $5,000 non-surety bond.
He is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court Friday at 9 a.m.
In a separate incident, police arrested Simon M. Muriithi, 22, of South Windsor early Friday morning on multiple charges including operating under the influence.
An officer observed Muriithi’s vehicle exit the parking lot of 59 John Fitch Boulevard and begin driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Route 5 at 1:10 a.m. Friday.
The vehicle corrected itself at the next median break and was stopped by police near Route 5 and Ellington Road.
During the investigation, police determined Muriithi was under the influence of alcohol.
He consented to standardized field sobriety tests, which he failed.
Police also determined Muriithi had no license and was drinking while driving.
Muriithi was charged with operating under the influence, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, operating a motor vehicle without a license and drinking while driving.
He was processed and released on a $500 non-surety bond.
Muriithi is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court on Monday, June 30, at 9 a.m.
