Bath police arrest 2 on drug charges after welfare check

BATH — A Village of Bath Police Officer observed a vehicle parked in front of a former business on East Steuben Street, which is permanently closed, on June 1 at approximately 6:30 p.m.

A female was observed in the driver’s seat, who appeared to be slumped over at the wheel.

The officer made contact with the occupants of the vehicle to check on them.

During this time, a controlled substance was located on the trunk of the vehicle.

The occupants, who were identified as Jennifer Benson, 31, and Tony Cole, 32, were detained for further investigation.

After further investigation, a large quantity of controlled substances were found in the vehicle and on Benson and Cole’s person.

Cole was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th, a class A Misdemeanor and one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, a class B Felony.

Benson was charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, a class A Misdemeanor, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th Degree, a class D Felony and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, a class B Felony.

Benson and Cole were processed and transported to Steuben County Jail to await CAP arraignment.
