WINDSOR — The Windsor Police Department issued a warning Friday about a phone scam targeting local residents where callers falsely claim to be police officers.
According to police, the scammers are attempting to obtain personal or financial information from victims.
The department reports that callers use convincing language to demand payment or personal information from those they contact.
“Police departments never solicit payments over the phone to resolve legal matters,” the department stated in a press release.
Authorities are advising residents not to provide any payment information or personal details to anyone claiming to be a police officer or law enforcement representative.
Residents who believe they have received such calls are encouraged to contact the Windsor Police Department at (860) 688-5273.
