HILLSDALE — A Massachusetts man has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than $38,000 from a disabled person he was appointed to care for, New York State Police announced Thursday.
Christopher J. Read, 46, of North Adams, faces felony charges following an investigation by the State Police Livingston Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Investigators determined that Read, who served as a legal guardian for an individual in Hillsdale, misappropriated $38,302.05 that was meant for the victim’s care and well-being.
Read instead diverted the funds for personal use, according to police.
He has been charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony, and endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person in the first degree, a class E felony.
Read was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Claverack Court on June 25.
