NH man arrested with illegal gun, drugs after traffic stop in Schaghticoke

SCHAGHTICOKE — A New Hampshire man was arrested Monday after state police found an illegal handgun and drugs during a traffic stop on State Route 67.

Austin Estell, 23, of Keene, faces multiple charges including criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, criminal possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of certain ammunition feeding devices, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.

Troopers responded to reports of an erratic vehicle on State Route 67 at approximately 5:29 p.m. on May 12.

Officers located a vehicle matching the description provided by a caller and initiated a traffic stop in Schaghticoke.

During the investigation, troopers discovered an illegally possessed loaded handgun with an illegal high-capacity magazine and a controlled substance in Estell’s vehicle.

Estell was also charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and other vehicle and traffic law violations.

He was transported to State Police Brunswick for processing, where he was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert and provided a blood sample to determine drug content.

Following arraignment at Schaghticoke Town Court, Estell was remanded to the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility.
