NEW BEDFORD — Narcotics detectives made two significant arrests last Thursday following investigations that yielded a loaded firearm and more than 41 grams of crack cocaine.
Detectives from the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau first responded to suspicious activity at the Blue Meadows housing development around 3 p.m. on May 8.
Upon approaching a parked vehicle with multiple occupants, officers observed a juvenile attempting to conceal a cross-body bag.
The bag contained a loaded Glock 19 firearm with a high-capacity magazine, according to Detective Jacob Rebello, who made the arrest.
The juvenile was taken into custody and held on $10,000 bail.
Later that evening, detectives monitoring a hotel parking lot on Hathaway Road witnessed what appeared to be a drug transaction.
Officers followed the suspect’s vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Nauset Street and Mt. Pleasant Street.
A search of the vehicle revealed over 41 grams of crack cocaine and $1,914 in cash, which was seized as suspected drug proceeds.
Norman Silva, 25, of 157 Hathaway St., was arrested and charged with cocaine trafficking in excess of 36 grams.
Detective David Wallant was the arresting officer in the drug case.
