ROME — The body of a man reported missing last month was recovered from the Erie Canal in the Town of Floyd on Sunday, according to the Rome Police Department.
The deceased was identified as Brandon J. Montalbano, 40, of Rome, following examination by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office on Monday.
Montalbano had been reported missing by family members on April 24, and was last seen in Rome on April 2.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team recovered the body, which was then transferred to the medical examiner’s office.
Rome Police Department’s Detective Division, which had been investigating Montalbano’s disappearance, has now transitioned to a death investigation.
Authorities said the cause and manner of death remain unknown, pending autopsy and toxicology results.
Police indicated there are no immediate or obvious signs of foul play.
The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives continue to pursue all leads and information received.
