Water rescue teams pull driver from Mohawk River

TRIBES HILL — Multiple fire departments and rescue teams responded Saturday to reports of an SUV with one occupant in the Mohawk River east of Lock 12.

The emergency call came in at 11:30 a.m. when eyewitnesses reported seeing a white SUV in the water.

Tribes Hill Fire Department and Fort Hunter Engine & Hose Company were the first units dispatched to the scene, with Amsterdam Fire Department and Montgomery County Emergency Management joining the response shortly after.

The Tri-County Swift Water Rescue Team responded to the Tribes Hill side of Lock 12, including members from Broadalbin-Kennyetto Fire Company: Chief William Robinson, Jr., 3rd Lieutenant Megan Sherman, and 4th Lieutenant Dave Sherman.

Berkshire Volunteer Fire Department Captain Kane Rokjer and Lt. Nicole Rokjer also participated in the rescue operation.

New York State Police, State Police Aviation, Saratoga County, and NYS Dive Teams were called to provide additional support at the scene.

LifeNet responded with a medical helicopter to transport the individual once rescued.

Montgomery County Air Boat 161 later reported they were returning to shore with the vehicle occupant, confirming medical assistance was needed.

The condition of the driver has not been released, and the cause of the vehicle entering the water remains under investigation.
