Springfield police seize 2 illegal firearms, arrest suspects after foot chase

SPRINGFIELD — Two Springfield residents were arrested Thursday night after police seized two illegal firearms, including an AR-style rifle with a 30-round magazine.

Members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit began investigating Josiaha Ramos, 20, earlier in the day for allegedly possessing illegal firearms.

Detectives located Ramos in a parking lot on the 600 block of State Street around 11 p.m.

When Ramos noticed police, he fled toward Bay Street before surrendering by lying on his stomach.

While being taken into custody, Ramos informed officers he had a firearm in his pants.

During the foot pursuit, additional detectives detained Natalia Ramos, 24, who was driving the car Josiaha had arrived in.

Detectives recovered an AR-style rifle with a 30-round magazine inside the vehicle, leading to Natalia’s arrest.

Josiaha Ramos faces multiple charges including carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded large capacity firearm on a public way, firearms trafficking, and conspiracy.

Natalia Ramos is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded large capacity firearm on a public way, firearms trafficking, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and conspiracy.
