SHELTON — A Shelton man faces multiple charges after police recovered stolen firearms and police equipment allegedly connected to a stolen unmarked police vehicle.
Nicholas Cano, 18, was arrested on May 6 and charged with multiple counts of theft of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, and violation of a protective order.
Cano, who was already in custody on other charges, was held on an additional $600,000 bond.
The arrest stems from an incident that occurred on Coram Road on April 14 when Shelton Police responded to assist New Haven Police with locating a stolen unmarked police vehicle.
The vehicle had been stolen in North Haven approximately 24 hours earlier.
Shelton Police assisted the New Haven Police Department with executing a search warrant at Cano’s residence, where they recovered ammunition and other items from the stolen vehicle.
Cano was not present during the search but was later located in Naugatuck and taken into custody for charges related to the stolen motor vehicle.
On April 18, a resident from Coram Road, near Cano’s residence, contacted the Shelton Police Department after finding a bag in the woods containing firearms and police equipment.
Responding officers located the bag, which contained four firearms, ammunition, and police equipment connected to the stolen police vehicle.
