Everett police arrest suspect in Thorndike Street shooting

EVERETT — Everett police arrested a Braintree man Monday in connection with an alleged shooting on Thorndike Street.

At approximately 9 a.m., detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit located a vehicle believed to be involved in an incident reported less than five hours earlier.

Officers from the Criminal Investigations Unit and the Patrol Division safely stopped the vehicle and detained its occupants.

James Chen, 37, of Braintree was arrested and taken into police custody.

Authorities recovered one loaded 9mm semi-automatic firearm during the arrest.

Chen faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.

Police stated there are no other immediate threats to the public.
