DELHI — A Bainbridge man was sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty to driving while impaired by drugs, the Delaware County District Attorney announced.

Jason C. Burress, 54, appeared before Judge John L. Hubbard in Delaware County Court on May 6 for sentencing.

The case began on July 11, 2024, when Sidney Police Officer Kevin McEwan stopped Burress’s vehicle in the Village of Sidney for making a left turn without using a signal.

During the traffic stop, Officer McEwan observed signs suggesting Burress might be impaired by drugs.

Sheriff Deputy Justin Mohr, a Certified Drug Recognition Expert, was called to the scene to evaluate Burress.

Deputy Mohr determined Burress was impaired by a stimulant, which was later confirmed by blood analysis showing the presence of methamphetamine.

Burress pleaded guilty on April 8 to Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, admitting he was under the influence of methamphetamine while operating his vehicle.

Judge Hubbard sentenced Burress to six months at the Delaware County Correctional Facility after reviewing the pre-sentencing report.
