UNADILLA — A registered sex offender already facing multiple charges has been hit with an additional count after investigators discovered child sexual abuse material on his cell phone.
Christopher M. DeMarco, 42, of Unadilla, was charged May 7 with possession of a sexual performance by a child, according to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office.
The new charge stems from evidence found on electronic devices seized during a search warrant execution at DeMarco’s residence.
DeMarco and his attorney appeared at the sheriff’s office where he was processed and issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Middlefield Court.
The defendant was initially arrested March 24 following an investigation into allegations that he had unlawfully recorded a juvenile victim who was changing clothes in a private room.
Investigators say DeMarco, a level II sex offender, used a cell phone to covertly record the victim.
During the investigation, authorities also discovered DeMarco had four unregistered internet accounts, violating New York State Sex Offender Registry requirements.
DeMarco had previously been convicted of unlawful surveillance in the second degree within the past ten years, officials said.
His initial charges include unlawful surveillance in the first degree, unlawful surveillance in the second degree, four counts of failure to notify change of address as a sex offender, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Following his March arrest, DeMarco was held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility awaiting centralized arraignment.
The Otsego County District Attorney’s Office recommended DeMarco be held without bail due to having two or more felony convictions.
An order of protection was requested on behalf of the victim.
