Flooding forces evacuations in Jordan as creek crests

JORDAN — The Village of Jordan experienced significant flooding Tuesday night when Skaneateles Creek crested in numerous areas, prompting evacuations and a state of emergency declaration.

Residents along Valley Drive, Vale Street, Elbridge Street, Chappell Street, Mechanic Street and Railroad Street began experiencing flooding around 9 p.m., with homes flooding and roads washing out.

Mayor Casey Brim declared a state of emergency at approximately 10 p.m.

The Jordan Fire Department worked with Northwest Fire District, Lakeside Fire Department, Solvay Fire Department and New York State Fire Swift Water Task Force to evacuate residents along Valley Drive and Vale Street.

By 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, all village streets were passable, though significant debris remained along road shoulders and sidewalks.

The state of emergency was lifted at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Village officials are asking residents who experienced significant damage to contact the Jordan Village Office at 315-689-7350 for documentation for possible FEMA assistance.

Multiple agencies responded to the emergency, including Jordan Fire Department, Northwest Fire District, Lakeside Fire Department, Solvay Fire Department, NYS Fire Swift Water Task Force, Onondaga County Emergency Management, Jordan Ambulance, Marcellus Ambulance, Jordan Police, Jordan DPW, Town of Elbridge Highway, Town of Elbridge, and NYSEG.
