Rochester man arrested in child exploitation investigation

IRONDEQUOIT — A Rochester man was arrested following a child exploitation investigation that began with a cyber tip in late 2023, state police announced.

Kevin J. Burns, 43, was charged with possessing a sexual performance by a child, a class E felony.

The investigation began on December 5, 2023, when New York State Police in Horseheads received a cyber tipline report from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children regarding the possession of child abuse material.

On November 5, 2024, state police executed a search warrant at a residence on Hillhurst Lane in Irondequoit, seizing numerous electronic devices for forensic examination.

The Troop E Computer Crimes Unit later determined that Child Sexual Abuse Material was present on one of the seized devices.

Burns was arrested on April 30 and processed at the State Police Rochester station.

He was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Irondequoit Town Court on Monday, June 9, at 5:30 p.m.
