Penn Yan woman charged with robbery after Main Street altercation

PENN YAN — A Penn Yan woman was arrested for robbery after allegedly shoving another village resident to the ground and stealing their property, according to local police.

Michelle L. Downs, 50, was charged with third-degree robbery and second-degree harassment following the incident on Main Street, the Penn Yan Police Department reported.

Officers responded to reports of a fight and discovered that Downs had forcibly taken property from the victim after pushing them down.

Downs was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Yates County Jail to await centralized arraignment.

Police noted that Downs had been arrested the previous day in an unrelated incident where she was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree harassment.
