BOSTON — A 39-year-old Mattapan man faces multiple charges after police witnessed him allegedly commit an indecent assault and later recovered an illegal firearm.

Officers assigned to District B-3 arrested Anthony Hamilton on Sunday, May 4, following an incident in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Fairway Street.

At approximately 5:38 p.m., officers on patrol observed Hamilton walking onto Fairway Street wearing a fanny pack across his chest.

Police witnessed Hamilton grab the buttocks of an unsuspecting female passerby, who appeared visibly shocked by the unprovoked contact.

As officers approached, another man reported that his girlfriend had also been assaulted by Hamilton.

When officers attempted to detain him, Hamilton allegedly ignored commands and violently resisted arrest.

During the struggle, officers removed Hamilton’s fanny pack and discovered a firearm inside.

District B-3 Detectives later identified the weapon as a black Smith & Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun with a defaced serial number.

The magazine, which had a capacity of 10 rounds, contained six live 9mm rounds, with one additional round chambered.

Hamilton faces charges including possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older, and resisting arrest.

He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
