HORSEHEADS — Two women were arrested following a search warrant execution at a Village of Horseheads residence that uncovered thousands of dollars in stolen property, controlled substances, and an illegal firearm.

Jennifer Savage, 44, and April Greene, 45, both of 147 Matthews Circle, were charged with criminal possession of stolen property and grand larceny, both class D felonies.

Savage faces additional charges of criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance, both class A misdemeanors.

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office executed the search warrant on May 2 after an investigation that began following an eviction at 263 W. 11th St. in the Village of Elmira Heights on April 30.

During the eviction, authorities received information that thousands of dollars in personal belongings had been stolen from the residence.

The Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division, working with the Civil Division and Village of Horseheads Police Department, determined the stolen property was located at the Matthews Circle address.

Both women were arraigned in Town of Horseheads Court and released.

Four dogs were removed from the residence during the search, and a stolen parrot was recovered and returned to its owner.

Village of Horseheads Code Enforcement deemed the home uninhabitable following the search.

Occupants are only permitted to enter the residence between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to care for animals remaining inside and to address code violations.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional arrests are expected.
