BOSTON — Boston police arrested a 58-year-old Jamaica Plain man on multiple firearm and drug charges Tuesday following a traffic stop in Mattapan.
Andre Wright was taken into custody after officers from the District B-3 Drug Control Unit discovered a loaded firearm and suspected crack cocaine during the arrest, which stemmed from an intelligence-based patrol.
Officers first observed Wright’s vehicle parked in a crosswalk near 39 Baird Street around 3 p.m.
After Wright briefly exited and re-entered his vehicle, moving it to a proper parking space, officers determined the license plates were improperly attached and registered to a different vehicle.
Police maintained surveillance as Wright entered an apartment at the Baird Street address for approximately five minutes before driving away.
Officers initiated a traffic stop at Morton Street and Arborway, where they discovered Wright did not possess a valid driver’s license.
A search of the vehicle revealed suspected crack cocaine in the center console and a black Sig Sauer firearm loaded with ten rounds of ammunition in a duffel bag on the back seat.
Additional items recovered included a digital scale, measuring cup, plastic bag containing baking soda, a razor, and an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.
Wright faces charges including possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute, receiving stolen property (firearm), unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on Wednesday.
