LAKEMONT — A chicken coop caught fire Friday night in Yates County, resulting in a total loss of the structure but no harm to the chickens inside.
Yates County 911 received a call at approximately 9:20 p.m. reporting a chicken coop ablaze at 5029 Lakemont Himrod Road in the Town of Starkey.
Dundee Fire, Dundee Ambulance, and Himrod Fire departments responded to the scene alongside Yates County Sheriff’s deputies.
Upon arrival, emergency responders found the chicken coop fully engulfed in flames.
The structure, owned by 74-year-old Harry Ayers of Lakemont, was declared a total loss.
All chickens housed in the coop managed to escape the fire unharmed.
Donald Lawrence, 49, also of Lakemont, was treated at the scene by Dundee Ambulance personnel and released.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Yates County Fire Investigation Team.
