Lyons traffic stop leads to major drug bust

LYONS — A routine traffic stop in Wayne County resulted in a significant drug seizure and the arrest of a Sodus man on felony charges Monday night.

At approximately 11:05 p.m. on March 17, a New York State Trooper from SP Lyons pulled over a 2024 Mazda on Warncke Road after observing the vehicle fail to signal while entering State Route 31 eastbound and exceeding the posted speed limit.

The driver was identified as Tony E. Hickey Jr., 54, of Sodus.

During the investigation, the trooper discovered Hickey was in possession of illicit drugs and other contraband.

A search of the vehicle and Hickey’s person yielded approximately 117.1 grams of crack cocaine, 4.3 grams of an unidentified controlled substance, and 13.5 grams of buprenorphine.

Authorities also found an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency and digital scales.

Hickey was taken into custody and transported to SP Lyons for processing.

He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd degree, an A-II Felony, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, a B Felony.

Following arraignment at the Wayne County Centralized Arraignment Process, Hickey was remanded to the Wayne County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing.
