GREECE — A 47-year-old woman was injured Thursday when thieves struck her with her own vehicle while stealing it from a Walmart parking lot, according to Greece Police.
Officers responded to 3800 Dewey Avenue at approximately 1:13 p.m. after the woman reported finding two unidentified male suspects inside her Kia Sportage.
When she attempted to stop the theft, one suspect struck her with the vehicle while fleeing the scene.
The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Police tracked the stolen vehicle using the License Plate Reader system, initially locating it on Lake Avenue before losing sight of it.
The vehicle was later found after it crashed into another car at a gas station on Lake Avenue and then collided with a fence.
Both suspects fled on foot from the crash scene.
Despite a search effort that included assistance from New York State Police helicopter units and Rochester Police Department’s K9 unit, the suspects were not located.
Investigators recovered physical evidence and surveillance footage from the scene.
