Brushton man arrested for scamming elderly resident out of $44,000

BRUSHTON — State Police arrested a Bronx man on March 1 for allegedly scamming an 87-year-old Brushton resident out of approximately $44,000.

Luis V. Peralta Morban, 33, was charged with attempted grand larceny 3rd and grand larceny 4th.

The investigation began on Feb. 28 when State Police responded to a fraud complaint on Delancy Ave in the village of Brushton.

According to police, the elderly victim reported being contacted by a male caller who gained their trust by claiming to be a relative in need of help.

The victim provided large sums of money to the suspect on multiple occasions.

Police said the victim became suspicious during the third contact and notified law enforcement.

Peralta Morban was transported to SP Malone for processing following his arrest.

He was arraigned in the Town of Moira Court and released on his own recognizance.
