Bath Police arrest three in village drug bust

BATH — On Feb. 12 at approximately 11:40 p.m., members of the Village of Bath Police Department and Steuben County Sheriff’s Office responded to 510 West Washington Street for a welfare check.

During the welfare check, an investigation into the possession of illegal drugs unfolded.

Authorities found large quantities of methamphetamine, crack cocaine, and fentanyl in the residence, as well as several drug packaging and sales materials.

Dewane M. Burdick, 63, of Bath, was arrested and charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a Class B felony.

Burdick was taken to the Steuben County Jail for arraignment and remains held without bail.

Sarah K. Rideout, 37, of Savona, was arrested and charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a Class A misdemeanor, and one count of conspiracy in the fourth degree, an E felony.

Rideout was released on an appearance ticket and is due in village court at a later date.

William D. Schaffer, 57, of Henrico, Virginia, was also arrested and faces the same charges as Rideout.

Schaffer was released on an appearance ticket and is set to appear in village court at a later date.
