GREECE — Officers responded to a residence on Grecian Gardens Drive at approximately 6:16 a.m. on Feb. 26 after receiving a report of a domestic incident.
A third-party caller reported that a female victim was being assaulted inside the home.
When officers arrived, they made contact with the suspect, who had blood on his hands.
The victim was found inside the residence with severe head trauma and was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, where she underwent surgery for non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, identified as 63-year-old Carl L. Rau, was taken into custody without incident.
Investigators determined that Rau used multiple objects in the assault before officers detained him.
Rau has been charged with attempted murder in the second degree and assault in the first degree.
He is currently being held pending arraignment.
The Greece Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is continuing its investigation.
